Hi guys! I'm Elyssa, a sophmore at JMU and loving it. I'm originally from New York so it's a nice change of pace and scenery for me. I've actually been tutoring since I was in 11th grade. It started out with one family, and word got around so by senior year I was tutoring 3 families. The parents sometimes liked to refer to me as a "study buddy" or "homework helper" to boost their children's self-esteems in a way. I did homework with them, studied with them, and explained anything to them they didn't understand. It turned out to be a very rewarding experience. I saw the children's grades increase tremendously and I loved when they would call me to tell me how they did on a test. It became an attachment--I still go over to the family's house I started tutoring any time I'm home for breaks. I'd like to think I did decently on my SAT's--I got an 1190 I think it was. I took a lot of AP classes throughout highschool (Psychology, World History, U.S. History, English Literature, English Language, and Spanish). I want to be a tutor here for a few reasons. One, I've done it before, and I know I'm good at it due to the results from home. Secondly, I work with special needs children over the summers and when I'm home for breaks--teaching them as well. I love it and I love knowing I've helped someone or changed their life in even the smallest way. I think I have a lot of information to offer about a lot of different areas.
