Experience

Hi my name is Allison and I am a Health Sciences, Public Health major and Substance Abuse Intervention Minor here at James Madison University. I originially am from Northern Virginia and graduated high school up there. I have worked with kids/adolescents almost my entire life. I was a babysitter and nanny before I turned 17. I have worked at a summer camp for 3 years, working with children ranging in age from 4 to 15. I got a 1220 on my SATS and when I took Calculus here at JMU I got an A. Last semester as well as this summer I tutored a couple of friends in calculus, as well as tutoring my boss' daughter in geometry to pass the SOL (and she did!). I really like working with kids and take an interactive approach when tutoring. I think tutoring is really effective, especially in science and math, when the problem is "talked out" between the tutor and the tutee so that they get a complete understanding of the problem. When tutoring I like to know the specfics of what I'm teaching before the session so that I can prepare and be the most effective for your student.
