Education

Education: High school - Class of 2007 ~Graduated with Advanced Diploma University - Senior at James Madison University ~Major: Modern Foreign Languages - SPANISH ~Minors: Translation/Interpretation, Secondary (High School) Education

Experience

~Why I Would Like To Tutor: I am the type of person that genuinely enjoys teaching. I enjoy translating difficult information into something much more understandable, attempting to figure out how the student learns best and using the existing strengths to outweigh his or her weaknesses. When I was in high school, I figured out that my strength lies in learning languages, and that lesson helped me do well in my Spanish classes. At James Madison, I am fortunate enough to be studying both my passions, education and Spanish, and would like to share that passion with other students. ~Teaching Experience: I am a substitute teacher for Manassas City Public Schools during my break periods from university studies. I have instructed grades pre-K through 6th grade with sporadic interactions with high school students for two years and assisted failing classmates with problem areas in Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuances. ~Classroom Experience: ~~High School: Exploratory Spanish/French, Spanish 1-4, AP Spanish ~~University: Intermediate Spanish, Spanish Grammar, Oral&Written Communication, Translation Strategies, Practical Spanish, Spanish Literature, Spanish Civilization, Latin American Civilization, Aspects of Spanish Civilization: The Franco Era, Spanish Golden Age Drama, Cinema for Spanish Conversation (Currently Enrolled), Contrastive Linguistics (Currently Enrolled)

Hobbies

Hello there! Thanks for clicking on my listing. I hope we get to chat about your son or daughter's needs for a Spanish tutor soon, but first I'll let you know a little about myself. My name is Brittany. I am the oldest of three children, and my two younger siblings are both autistic. Growing up with autistic siblings taught me a lot about interpersonal communication and what goes into the learning process. I live with (not suffer from) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and before I was diagnosed (in the middle of sophomore year at university!) it was a struggle to do well in my classes. Now, I take what I have learned and make my school life as productive and successful as possible, and I hope to do the same for your child. My Experience/Qualifications tab can tell you about my school history and teaching expertise, but let me elaborate on that information. I am a hard worker that genuinely loves to teach. I have a natural maternal streak a mile wide that is thrilled to help and nurture someone with a weakness for foreign languages, or even struggles with organization or study/classroom attention habits. I believe that no two people can learn the same way, and I hope that we can figure out the best way to make sure your son or daughter is successful in their foreign language studies.
