Education

I am a senior Philosophy Major at James Madison University. I have a 3.33 gpa overall, and have participated in academic conferences in which I have presented on topics concerning Phenomenology, Hermeneutics and Quantum Mechanics.

Experience

I also give drum lessons and clinics, having recently worked with students from Monte Video Middle School; as well as served as a percussion instructor for Man High School in West Virginia. I was in the all-regional and all-county bands in high school, as well as the drum line captain a member of the honor band. I was in multiple honors societies in high school; including the general honors society, German honors society, Beta club, and music honors society. I was also a part of a special Humanities program that lasted my four years in high school, focusing on the history of the human spirit through it's literature, philosophies, arts, and culture. I am well versed in logic and other such skill-areas needed for standardized tests; as reflected in my GRE writing score of a 5 out of 6. I enjoy teaching, especially at the one on one level because it gives me a chance to translate my knowledge on an individual level; making it a more personal and fulfilling situation for the student, as well as myself. One never truly understands something until one teaches it, and I revel in testing my own understanding when discussing material with others. I've taken many integrative philosophy classes which delve into history, science and mathematics; and I am well versed in the conceptual theories founding our modern understanding and worldview. I have also taken five years of German, multiple Biology courses, Virginia History, multiple religion courses, as well as developed organizational/ people skills as I have had to juggle school, working service jobs, and music. I plan on taking a year off from school after I graduate in May, giving myself plenty of time to prepare for the rigorous task of achieving a PhD in Continental Philosophy.

Hobbies

I have been playing drums, specializing on the snare and drumset, for almost twelve years now. I've played for multiple bands in Richmond as well as a couple gigs around the Harrisonburg/ Staunton area. I love almost anything having to do with music- listening to as well as playing. I enjoy reading philosophy, especially that of Kant, Heidegger, Nietzsche, Sartre and Gadamer (to name a few). I am specifically interested in the relationship between philosophy and the sciences, as well as the positive role between philosophy and religion. I also enjoy less rigorous reads, as well as supporting an active life style incorporating intramural soccer clubs and ultimate frisbee. I enjoy a well rounded life of reading, writing, and active participation with the world around me.
